Scheduling and Cancellation Policy
I encourage students to set up weekly lessons at a consistent time and day of the week. Students who wish to have lessons every-other-week can sometimes be accommodated or be charged a fee to hold the lesson slot.
Let me know what days and times work for you and we will set up a regular time! If that time doesn’t work on certain weeks, please let me know in advance and we can cancel or try to find a time to reschedule.
Any same-day cancellations or no-shows, except in the case of illness, will still be charged in full. If your child is ill, I would rather not meet for a lesson, so you will not be charged.
Please be ready to start your lesson at the decided time as I may not be able to honor your full lesson time if you are late. Allowances due to technical difficulties will be made when possible.
Virtual or In-Person Lessons
Families can choose to have virtual lessons using Google Meet or Zoom, come to my house for a lesson on my back patio, or I can travel to your house for an extra convenience fee per lesson.
Lessons at Carrie’s house (in northeast Arvada) will be on her back patio. If the weather is bad or if the student is ill (but is still up for a lesson), we will switch to an online lesson instead.
Virtual students will need a device with a camera, microphone, and headphones. A good computer/tablet/phone and a reliable internet connection will help lessons run smoothly. An upgraded USB microphone is suggested for more advanced students.
Practicing
I do not require my students to complete practice logs, but the more the student can practice between lessons, the more valuable the lessons will be. I work with the student during our lessons to create good practice habits, but the enforcement needs to come from the parent/guardian.
I suggest a minimum of double the lesson time (30 minute lesson = 60 minutes of practice) per week in order to make the most progress. Students who choose not to practice between lessons may experience increased frustration during our time and may not find lessons very valuable.
Practice sessions should be spread out over several days rather than all at once. 15 minutes 4 days a week is better than 60 minutes all on one day because it helps increase focus and build skills more effectively.
If there is a safe place to leave the instrument out and assembled, it is much easier to pick it up to practice regularly. Be sure to clean it when you are done!
